No, we are not a religion. Our teachers teach the process of self-realization. That is, to understand who I am? Do you ever think, who am I really? Why do I suffer? Why do I feel unhappy sometimes and happy sometimes? Is someone controlling the way I feel, or am I independent? I do not want to suffer but I am forced to suffer. I want to enjoy so many things, I want to buy so much. But I cannot. I am forced to restrain myself, my desires and my wants. Why do other people have so much that I cannot have? Why do other people have success and fame, while me, no matter how hard I try I cannot get them?
Our teacher, Srila Prabhupada answers these and many other the scripture, Bhagavad Gita answers all questions. To put it very simply, we are suffer sometimes, are sometimes unhappy and sometimes frustrated because we don’t know who we actually are. Our teachers explain that we are actually a spirit soul, within this body. Our body is like a car and the soul is the driver. We have to take the needs of the soul into account if we want to be really happy. The soul needs nourishment just as the body needs nourishment. But because the soul is spirit and not matter like the body, we need spiritual nourishment and how we can get this is explained in the Bhagavad gita, Lord Krishna teaches how to balance the needs of the body and the soul. Bhagavad gita gives knowledge by which we can transcend all suffering.
